Education:
Head Men’s Soccer Coach Bill Ashby enters his fourth season at University of Maine Fort Kent with an overall record of 54-5-2. In 2008, Ashby’s men posted an impressive 20-1-2 record. The Bengals finished ranked # 8 in the final NAIA National Poll for the first time in the schools’ history. 2008 also saw the Bengals advanced to the NAIA Elite 8 of the NAIA National Tournament.
In 2008, Ashby was selected NSCAA Regional COY for the third time in his coaching career. Coach Ashby has been previously recognized by the NAIA as Regional Coach of the Year in 2000 at the University of Mary and 2002 at Brescia University. Ashby is also a two time winner of the Sunrise Conference COY, along with being selected as a three time winner of the COY in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletics. The National Soccer Coaches Association of America recognized Coach Ashby as one of the top youth coaches in the country. In 2004 and 2005, Ashby was in the final four for National Boys Coach of the Year by being selected West Regional and Central Regional Coach of the Year.
Coach Ashby is an instructor and leader in NSCAA and U.S. Soccer in coach education and licensing programs. The NSCAA has tapped Coach Ashby as their State Technical Coordinator for Maine. Ashby has also served two four-year terms as State Director of Coaching for the States of Maine and North Dakota youth soccer associations.
The 2009 season will be Ashby’s 25th as a college head coach. Ashby started his coaching career at his alma mater, the University of Maine at Machias. From UMM he went to Husson College, Maine Maritime Academy, University of Mary in North Dakota, Brescia University in Kentucky, and now to the University of Maine Fort Kent. Ashby ranks as the most successful coach at Maine Maritime, University of Mary and Brescia University, where he set records at all three schools for most wins as a soccer coach. Ashby’s all-time men’s college coaching record is 261-161-20.
Coach Ashby holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from UMM and Masters in Management from the University of Mary.
