Forbes, Kluvers 2014 UMFK Athletes of the Year at Annual Awards Night

On Friday March 21, the University of Maine at Fort Kent Athletic Department held their annual Athletic Awards Night at the UMFK Sports Center in Fort Kent, Maine. Highlighting the evening was the presentation of National Championship Rings to the USCAA National Champion UMFK Women’s Soccer Team.

Multiple individual award winners were also headlined by Women’s Soccer. Senior goalkeeper Kimika Forbes (Trinidad & Tobago) was named 2014 UMFK Female Athlete of the Year. The USCAA 1st Team All-American was also named to the USCAA All-Tournament Team. Katherine Ferland (SO Fwd, Sainte-Agathe-Des-Monts, Canada), who was a USCAA Academic All-American, was also named to her second straight USCAA 1st All-American Team, was a member of the USCAA All-Tournament Team and was the USCAA Tournament MVP. Megan Perry (SO Mid, Etna, Maine), a USCAA Academic All-American, was named Women’s Soccer Most Valuable Teammate.

Men’s Soccer standout Ben Kluvers (FR Fwd, Vernon Hills, Illinois) picked up the 2014 UMFK Male Athlete of the Year Award as he helped lead the Bengals to the National Championship game. Kluvers was a USCAA 1st Team All-American and was named to the USCAA All-Tournament Team. Senior Kevin Dionne (St-Andre D' Argenteuil, Quebec) went out in style. The USCAA Academic All-American picked up the Terry Drown Scholastic Achievement Award Presented by Kappa Delta Phi to a senior male and female student-athlete with the highest GPA.

Women’s Volleyball, which returned to the court in 2013 after a year away, was led by junior middle blocker Ana Peabody (Boulder Creek, California). The USCAA All-American Honorable Mention was named Women’s Volleyball Most Valuable Teammate. Complete award winners are listed below.

Senior women’s basketball standout Jennifer Colpitts (Scarborough, Maine) was the female recipient of the Terry Drown Scholastic Achievement Award. Colpitts scored here 1,000 career point in her first game back in early December following a knee injury which she suffered at the close of her junior season during the 2013 USCAA National Championships. She earned the Team Comeback Player of the Year Award this season as she helped lead the Lady Bengals back to the USCAA Nationals and was named a 2nd Team All-American.

UMFK Women’s Basketball player Samantha Carapellucci (Fort Kent, Maine) and men’s basketball player James Givens (JR G, Fairfield, California) were named UMFK Most Valuable Teammates and each of them were named USCAA All-American Honorable Mentions.
