Women's soccer opened their season with a 7-0 win over VTC

The UMFK women's soccer team opened their season with a 7-0 defeat of Vermont Technical College Saturday in Fort Kent. The Lady Bengals (1-0) will return to action Monday at 11am when they host Holland College (PEI, Canada) at 11am. VTC (0-1) will face Holland College in Fort Kent Sunday at 11am.

BOX SCORE - In Saturday’s game in front of over two hundred fans the Lady Bengal’s kicked off their regular season with an impressive win. Sophomore and reigning 2012 USCAA scoring leader, Katherine Ferland (Montreal, Canada) scored three times and added an assist to lead the UMFK attack.

Host UMFK out-shot the Hurricanes 34-0 and keepers Kimika Forbes (Sr., Trinidad & Tobago) and Jessica Kozachuk (Fr., Sarnia, Ontario) were not forced to make a save as they split halves in goal for UMFK. Freshmen VTC keeper Laura Flint (Highgat, VT) made eight saves on the day.

The Lady Bengals led 6-0 by halftime and were able to get action for their full roster which includes fourteen first year players. Freshmen forward Marie-Laurence Montagne (Montreal, Canada) and second year player Kayla Richards (MF., Presque Isle, Maine) added a goal and assist on the day and freshmen Sadie Gosse (MF., Richdmond, Maine) and Nathalie Michaud (So., Madison, Maine) picked up the other goals on the day for UMFK.
