Bengals up-end Varsity Reds
October 22, 2009 • Fort Kent, Maine

Maine Fort Kent used balanced scoring and strong three-point shooting in defeating the University of New Brunswick Fredericton 89-70 Thursday evening in men’s college basketball action in Fort Kent, Maine. The Bengals (1-1) made eight of their fourteen threes on the night in the second half and had six players reach double figure scoring as they were able to jump out to a 20 point lead mid way through the first half in dropping the visiting Varsity Reds to 3-3 on the year.

Senior tri-captain Goran Nagradic (Kutina, Croatia) led the UMFK attack with 18 points and a game-high six steals while super sophomore Manny Odugbela (Providence, Rhode Island) added 17 points and dished out six assists.

Three point shooting became the story in the second half as Alan Campbell knocked down three of his four (12points) and senior forward Ilija Kalajdzic (Belgrade, Serbia) added two more as he finished with 15 points. Joining UMFK Bengals in double figure scoring were Jeremy Thomas (Detroit, Michigan) and Othniel Hyliger (Sandy Point, St. Kitts) with 13 and 10 respectively.

Colton Wilson and Gamachu Ibrahim led UNB with 15 points each.

The Bengals next play Sunday October 25 when they entertain St. Thomas University (Canada) at 3:30pm in Fort Kent while UNB continues on to Kingston, Ontario for a pair of games Saturday and Sunday.
